Masculin Statue Tiv, Nigeria
1 500€
Beautiful and imposing archaic male statuette, certainly from the Tiv people. The wood chosen, the object's patina and its style seem to attest to this origin. The body is skillfully sculpted, cut into straight cuts, long legs and a powerful bust that widens into cubist shoulders. The beautiful face, sculpted with force, is particularly expressive, the eyes formed by almond shaped cavities, a large nose and a mouth revealing a row of teeth.
The regular tool marks bring light to the dark red-brown patina, shiny on the edges, black detailing the cheeks, pelvis and legs. This statue probably belongs both to the magico-religious sphere and to that of marriage rites.
