Songye statuette, Democratic Republic of Congo
500€
In a very beautiful and old style, this statuette represented in a conventional pose, is marked by the power of the attitude - face and abdomen projected forward - angular lines stretching over the entire width of the face - the chin and receding forehead - large slanted eyes with protruding pupils - open mouth with raised corners, lower jaw stretched forward. The broken line that delimits the hair from the temples, the volume of the hairstyle and the high curvilinear plinth characterize the statuary of the Western Songye (Eki and Kibeshi). Shaded patina, reddish brown, shiny on the reliefs.
