Abstract oil painting by Philippe Ouassa, Congo-Brazzaville 1970
Sold
Oil on canvas, abstract animal figures signed Philippe Ouassa (1936) painted in his own workshop in Brazzaville in 1970. Philippe Ouassa is part of the first generation of painters from the school of Poto Poto founded in Brazzaville in 1951 by the painter Pierre Lods . This structure is frequented by several big names in modern Congolese painting such as Marcel Gotène, François Iloki, Ossiete, Nicolas Ondongo, Philippe Ouassa, François Thango, Joseph Dimi, and Jacques Zigoma. It is characteristic to unique Congolese art both by its associative mode and by a style of painting with bold colors used in monochrome flat layouts, with outlined contours and lack of geometric perspective.
