Wonderful painting of Joseph Amedokpo, Togolese painter, titled Black Beauties, signed and dated 2003. Amedokpo was born in Vogan, Togo, in 1946, and at the age of eight moved to Lagos, Nigeria, where he received his education and artistic training, receiving a scholarship at Yaba Trade Center where he studied fine arts. from 1966 to 1968. After graduating, Joseph made a living selling exclusively his paintings. Back in Vogan, Amedokpo paints using locally available oils and his canvases are bags of recycled flour, washed and stretched. His studio is part of his family compound; a tin roof protects it from the African sun and seasonal rains. In 2008, Amedokpo was selected as one of four artists for the Dell Product RED initiative in the global fight against AIDS. Joseph Amedokpo's works are exhibited and marketed by gallery owners around the world.
