Neckrest Wollayta, Ethiopia

Ancient neck rest for men, cut from a single block, it has two lateral uprights which meet at the level of the concave platform and two columns with a rhomboidal base. Streak-shaped engravings decorate the object on the uprights, columns, base and underside of the lintel. It bears obvious traces of use such as the very rounded edges and the worn engravings filled with layers of time. Deep honey patina. The marks of friction with the ground under the plinth and the irregular rim of the base confirm its authenticity.
