Adja Bochio, Benin
1 400€
Superb bochio linked to the cult of Sakpata, the voodoo of the earth and smallpox, both a beneficial force, symbol of the earth and responsible for fertility, but also a powerful punitive and destructive force, including the weapon of destruction is mainly smallpox. He holds a pottery with holes on his head, his forehead is adorned with a band of cowries and he is dressed in a white loincloth entirely tied up and impregnated with kaolin and blue pigments. An undulating iron rod which represents Dan or Dangbé, the voodoo-snake is embedded in the neck of the bochio. In its back a magical charge is hidden by the fabrics and the rope and protrudes from it a small antelope skull. The whole is covered with a magnificent patina of pigments.
